Here it is, the time I can finally write about why I stayed inside on the nights the Knicks clinched each round, including their first championship in 53 years!
How could I not take ONELEGUPALEX MEDIA to the streets to cover Knicks fans celebrating history? Because I’m also a realist . Yes, I rollerblade everywhere and anywhere, but when there are massive crowds that could potentially turn violent as we saw after numerous Knicks wins, I wasn’t taking my chances . Especially on crutches and one leg.
And it paid off!
Not only did I get to record my raw reactions to the Knicks advancing to the finals, but then got to record my own reaction to the Knicks winning it all for my podcast (https://www.spreaker.com/episode/onelegupalex-media-s-final-5-minutes-as-knicks-win-in-5-6-13-26–72518636) and stayed safe in the process !
The following Monday, I was right at the Today Show Door as the starting 5 (JB, Josh, KAT, Mikal and then later OG) pulled up for their appearance ( https://www.instagram.com/p/DZm2eoulcQC/?igsh=MTBoN3lkc2U3MDYxcA==) . I was there for Citifield to erupt for OG’s first pitch ( https://www.instagram.com/reel/DaI2-zyByvK/?igsh=MXlxYzJybXNpbDN1). I was there with my buddy, Ryan Pagano, on the Canyon of Heroes (https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZvJBXDhz5E/?igsh=MWVsN2o1N3hyZzJ2cQ==) And then I was there for FanaticsFest when the Knicks took center stage all weekend (and even competed in the Fanatics Games). If I had risked going out to the riots and the crowds and 42nd street looking like day after tomorrow , who knows if any of it would be possible.
Look, I am a watch party guy. I love being around crowds cheering on our teams as they advance each step of the playoffs. I saw Game One of the 2014 Stanley Cup between the New York Rangers and L.A. Kings at Bryant Park; I visited bars for the 2015 World Series which pitted the Mets vs. Royals . I have gone to Yankee playoff games and even had the privilege to see the Yanks win the World Series in 1999 and 2009 in The Bronx.
For each of the Knick runs over the years, I’ve enjoyed capturing the crowds at the watch parties outside the Garden during each round . However, as the prospects became realer that the Knicks could advance to the Finals, I decided to stay home the night of the clincher . I’d say the same for the night the Knicks won their first championship in 53 years.
And I am so glad I did. I’m writing this to say adapting and recognizing own vulnerabilities could pay off in the long long run , and as I always say, we are always ADAPTING!
