Earlier this season, we got the chance to see Jonah Tong’s MLB debut for the Mets thanks to Jill Smith of Limb Kind foundation on August 29th!

I found out about Limb Kind through my friend, amputee Mary Johnson . After further research, Limb Kind helps children and adults by providing prosthetics for amputations of any variety . Their impact is felt in six countries and have donated 500 PROSTHETICS!!!
More than that, Limb Kind provides a special community for those in the NYC area to get together and support each other through the highs and lows of adapting to amputations . That community feel is why being at the Limb Kind event at CitiField was so special!
I got a couple of reactions from those in attendance including my long-time friend Sarah Cronin, a Henry Viscardi School alumnus! She said that she was, “so grateful for the chance to spend (August 29th) with my limb kind family, cheering the Mets to victory.”
I also got meet another amputee, Steven, who was attending his very first Limb Kind event! It was also fun to reconnect with Christopher Alvarez , journalist and also a Viscardi School alumnus !
The other part of this evening opened my eyes to an initiative between Major League Baseball and teams like the Mets . That initiative is the COMMISSIONER’s initiative. According to the MLB website, “The program was designed to provide tickets to children, youth, and deserving groups who might not otherwise have a chance to attend a Mets game*. I think of how beneficial this is for organizations like The Viscardi Center who have a whole night at CitiField Each May! If you feel your organization would be a great fit to host an event check out more here, https://www.mlb.com/mets/community/ticket-program
I talked about this night and the initiative on the OneLegUpAlex network: (https://www.spreaker.com/episode/onelegupalex-adapts-with-limb-kind-foundation-at-citifield-thanks-to-mlb-commissioner-s-initiative-8-30-25–67566194)
I also want to encourage you to visit Limb Kind’s website for more news as well as info on the annual ‘Show Your Shine’ Gala in January! (https://limbkind.org/show-your-shine)
