Through Him, Christ and Moses, All Things Are Possible!

After watching The Ten Commandments on the first night of Passover, I just am reminded of the connection between Moses and Jesus this Holy Week!

By the way, there are two Holy Weeks every year , between Palm Sunday and Easter as well as on the Jewish calendar for the High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur !

I always love when Passover and Easter / Chanukah and Christmas cross-over because it just feels we are in a spiritual period every time these two traditions intersect!

Are you ready for the real kicker though? That Moses AND Jesus were both JEWISH and they both celebrated Passover! That Moses AND Jesus were both chosen by God to carry out His law!

Moses was called by God to free Israelites and deliver the message to the Pharoah , “LET MY PEOPLE GO!” I’m sure you can read that in Charlton Heston’s voice! Moses was the leader that delivered the Jewish people to the promised land and was given the power to part the Red Sea.

Why Moses? I believe it is because of his mom’s faith! She believed , rightfully so, that if she sent him up the river in the wicker basket, Moses would be safe from Pharoah’s edict that all first born sons be killed! She also believed through this act that Moses become someone pretty special! Sure enough, he became the leader that would free the Jews and it all started with Jochebed! Mary, by all accounts also believed God when He told her she would give birth to the newborn King! Mary, and Joseph, also carried that faith into the Inn where Christ was born!

So from birth, we can establish the connection between Moses and Jesus and the power they would hold! When they got older Jesus and Moses also humbled themselves. Moses, to accomplish what God asked of him, humbled himself to the point of indentured servitude and countless whippings by Pharoah’s henchmen! It was when he started to powerfully speak up against the injustice against the Jews did Moses start to gain a following who would trust him to set them free!J

Jesus, even before his crucifixion, humbled himself to be amongst the sinners, the poor and, as Charles Dickens writes , ‘the lame beggars’. Through this humbling , of course, Jesus helped the blind see, resurrected Lazarus AND countless times gave hope, and nourishment, to those like Mary Magdalene and the fishermen who became Christ’s disciples. I truly think Moses and Jesus both believed that by being in the trenches, they could accomplish God’s mission !

When I think of the Moses and Jesus parallel, I think of the biblical phrase, ‘through him’. Truly, through Them, as well all things are possible. Through the belief in Moses’s deliverance of God’s Ten Commandments and Jesus’s words ‘Through Him all things are possible ‘ as well as ‘I am the truth and the Life’ , we in fact not only believe All Things Through Him but also All Things Through Them!

Here is the coolest connection between Moses and Christ , in my view. After researching , I found that Jesus referenced Moses and the Ten Commandments when he said, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.”
Matthew 5:17-18

Christ also said , “For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me” – John 5:46.

So the intersection of Passover and Easter as well as Christmas and Chanukah is not just a physical calendar occurrence, it’s bringing the Bible to LIFE!

One more reminder, The Last Supper is in fact a Passover Seder! I wrote about this here , https://alexgarrettblog.wordpress.com/2023/04/09/my-easter-and-passover-message-for-2023/ .

I really hope the 2025 edition of Passover and Easter are special for you and I also write this with the hostages still held by Hamas who will not be able to celebrate the Holy Week. If we unite knowing the connection between Old and New Testament, that faith and knowledge will set free all captive by sinister forces!

That is my prayer for Passover and Easter 2025!
