Fairer MTA Fares for All in NYC During Congestion Pricing Era

Alex Garrett (1-22-25)

I’ve just submitted this feedback to the MTA regarding LIRR fares! Tell me if I’m right at alex@alexgnyc.com

This is not a complaint it is actually a suggestion I’ve been meaning to do for a while!

Since congestion pricing is now socking NYers, I would like to suggest fairer fares for commuters on the LIRR if you want to encourage use of mass transit.

Firstly, the disabled and senior citizen community should have a flat fare of 5 dollars no matter the zone considering how much our taxes pay the salaries and also considering how many ABLE BODIED fare evaders get away with it while it’s basically mandatory the disabled pay their way. It is ludicrous!

Speaking of the able-bodied, as stated earlier I truly believe if you want to encourage people to use mass transit, fare hikes will not do the trick. It will deter people even more and cause more clogging up our streets which you are now taxing. If you lower the 16 bucks or more fares to make it nine dollars less (the cost of congestion pricing tolls) you’ll truly make it worth to go on public transit !

If you aren’t willing to lower fares for all, then don’t punish us with congestion pricing nonsense, it just is not for the people!

Thanks for your attention to this matter!
